Sea of Remnants August Developer Letter Summary
Every couple of weeks since launch Joker Studios releases a new Developer Letter or post with roadmap discussing upcoming updates, feedback, community issues. As a disclaimer, some of the questions and answers here are paraphrased because I felt it would be easier to understand for the Global audience. I also added context to some questions for players who aren’t playing the Chinese version. I hope this helps everyone keep up with the comings and goings of the game or those who simply have been curious about what’s happening over there!
Q1 – When will job unlock no longer need specific characters? I can’t pull them at all, adjustments are needed asap!
Context: In order to unlock some jobs, you need to level up specific characters, even though all characters can access all jobs within their Path. The job unlock system has caused a lot of distress and is one of the major complaints from the community currently.
Answer: Early September! Please keep an eye out for announcements!
Q2 – Will there be a way to teleport to the Hamster God and Lion Statues directly? I keep running past them.
A: After the August 20th update, players will be able to teleport directly to those statues. There will also be improvements on direct teleportation and tracking to allow players to go straight to the Hamster Horns and targets at sea.
Q3 – Stop making people waste time every week climbing that enormous Memory Tower.
Context: In order to access the weekly Memory Reunion (the mechanic that allows you to get a free weapon or character every week), you have to climb a very, very tall tower.
A: After the August 20th update, you will be able to teleport directly to the Sea of Remnants, no need to manually climb the tower every time.
Q4 – Killing small monsters with white markers still requires three attacks, which is tiring for the hands and can cause tenosynovitis if played for a long time.
A: Protect the captain’s health! Say no to tenosynovitis! After the August 20th update, captains will be able to directly kill enemy units with a significantly higher level difference than the team’s average level in a single strike!
Q5 – It would be great if Specimen Box could be used when blowing a horn, otherwise captains need to level up to 20 before doing that.
Context: Every day you get 2 free horns and can buy another 3. There are also 3 free large horns every week. These horns are important because they offer a large boost in Treasure rarity drop rate, and are often the only way to get the Treasures that actually matter to level up characters, jobs, weapons (Echoes), etc. While you technically can blow the horn at a lower level, the value of the Treasure also goes down, which is why most players prefer to use a level 20 party to do daily horns.
A: In early September it will be possible to use saved parties (Specimen Box) when blowing horns!
Q6 – Players log in daily with nothing to do. Can you give us more horns so we can challenge ourselves? Otherwise, logging in takes only ten minutes, and we don’t know what to do while the game is open.
A: A new Horn event will be available in early September. During the event, captains can complete challenges to obtain Horns and acquire resources for character development.

Q7- Please address the malicious marketing accounts and trolls that engage in smear campaigns. Are you listening, Hamster?
Context: On CN social media it’s been fairly common since launch that some accounts will spread negativity and misinformation about the game, both through videos, posts, and comments. While this is fairly common with pretty much every gacha release, the degree it reached here is a bit concerning, which is why the devs are having to take up action directly.
A: We have noticed that some accounts have maliciously published content and comments that smear the game or disparage other games, for the purpose of driving traffic or other reasons. We strongly discourage and will never permit seeking traffic or earning incentives in this manner. We sincerely apologize that some captains have been attacked and affected by such malicious remarks. We are actively addressing this issue and will develop a comprehensive resolution plan soon!
Q8 – Mobile naval battles are too uncomfortable, sometimes the controls don’t match the actions! (Example: turning doesn’t work properly)
A: To address the issue where ships sometimes turn in the opposite direction of the intended path, we’ve optimized the ship’s steering to better match the captain’s actual input. We’ll continue to refine the controls on mobile devices, and captains can submit specific feedback through the in-game [Quick Feedback] option if they encounter any other issues.
Q9 – Please upload the OST and songs to the Netease Cloud! 😭😭🙏🏻🙏🏻
A: Thank you for your recognition! Some of the game’s songs are now available at NetEase Cloud Music. Search for “Sea of Remnants” (遗忘之海) to listen! More in-game music and crew theme songs will be added in the future, keep an eye for official announcements!
Q10 – Add a review of past dialogue in idle conversations. Sometimes, tapping too quickly can cause sentences to be missed, making it impossible to look back!
A: Yes, Captain! Yes! During the captain’s story, you can tap the icon in the upper corner to view records and replays.
Q11 – I thought the effects of multiple Thundercloud Dice would stack… I hope you can add text indicating that the same effect cannot be triggered repeatedly.
Context: Some Enhancement Dice effects do not stack, which makes having them in more than one character or using them two or more rounds in a row useless. The game is also not very clear regarding if a dice will work with certain types of skills or not, or if its effects will be diminished.
A: The dev team is investigating the matter, as well as related feedback, and are actively working on reducing ambiguous information and improving clarity in-game in the upcoming updates.
Q12 – Add a mini-game lobby, and we also want online matchmaking!
A: You can talk to the NPC Jim in Orbtopia’s main square near the inn to access mini-game matchmakings.

Update Roadmap Explanation
During this period, we have been collecting and organizing captains’ in-game experience preferences, survey feedback, and gameplay data. After internal review and discussion, the project team plans to make some changes to the version update logic. While maintaining the original amount of content in each version, we will shift from weekly incremental updates to more consolidated version updates.
The core purpose is to gradually adjust the presentation pace of different content, appropriately enhance the connection between some activities, and make the overall version experience more immersive and complete.
While planning for future patches, we will continue to adjust in this direction and constantly try to enrich the variety of larger patches. We hope that in subsequent version updates, captains will be able to choose both relaxed content and more challenging gameplay, experiencing activities with different content dimensions and gameplay types.
At the same time, in the weekly updates, we will continue to pay attention to feedback from various channels, proactively optimize the experience and fix issues, and do our best to ensure the captain’s daily gaming experience.
Based on this adjustment strategy, we are synchronizing the recent version update plan with the captain:
- August 20th: Treasure Hunt High-Value Day Event
- August 24th: “Good Dream Cup” Grand Competition Begins
- September 3rd: Brand new version “Until the Lost End” launches. Captain Edward of the Wanderer Crew appears (Black Spot rarity), along with the new Echoes of the Past: Shadow of the Sun (Black Spot Rarity); a new main story, a new Sea Overlord, the new event: Ballad Singer’s Story Collection, the new Horn Challenge event, new costumes, and more content updates.
- September 30th: Marks the start of the new season, featuring new crew members, events, and content. The new season will also introduce new combat gameplay. We will share more information with captains later~
Since the open beta, we have been continuously iterating on game content. We are very grateful for the companionship and support of all captains. We have prepared departure supplies “1 Million Coins, 2500 Strange Gels” for all captains as a token of our appreciation, which will be distributed via in-game mail after the update on August 20th. Your encouragement and suggestions are the driving force behind our continuous improvement. If captains have any suggestions or ideas, you are welcome to contact us through various feedback channels at any time. We will carefully record and listen to all of them! Thank you again for sailing with us, and we wish you smooth voyages!
