Summer Neon – review and ratings

Disclaimer

This is an early review for Summer Neon, so her rating can change in the future as we will able to do more testing.

Information

  • Rarity: SSR
  • Burst: III
  • Weapon: MG
  • Class: Attacker
  • Element: Water
  • Manufacturer: Elysion
  • Squad: Counters

Skills

Skill 1 – Upper Wave

■ Activates when using Burst Skill. Affects self.

Effect changes according to the number of activation time(s). Previous effects trigger repeatedly:

Once: Parts Damage ▲ 12.4% for 20 sec.

Twice: Parts Damage ▲ 12.4% for 20 sec.

Three times: Parts Damage ▲ 12.4% for 20 sec.

Summer Neon Skill 1 activates only when she’s using her Burst skill which basically makes it useless because you never want to use Neon’s Burst – but let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Overall the damage boost that comes from the skill is great on paper as it will improve Neon’s damage against bosses, but after the tests we have done, if you use Neon’s Burst it will result in overall damage loss.

So just pretend like this skill doesn’t exist and don’t bother upgrading it.

Skill 2 – Water Jet

■ Activates when entering Burst Stage 3. Affects self.

Effect changes according to the number of activation time(s). Previous effects trigger repeatedly:

Once: Damage as strong element ▲ 20.56% for 10 sec.

Twice: Damage as strong element ▲ 20.2% for 10 sec.

Three times: Damage as strong element ▲ 20.2% for 10 sec.

Summer Neon Skill 2 is another big damage boost and thankfully this time it activates on entering Burst Stage 3 – which means that you don’t need to Burst with Neon to gain its benefits. Still, the issue with the skill is that it only helps her when you’re fighting an enemy with the Fire element. Which means you will be able to make use of it mostly on bosses.

Burst – Full Hydro Shot

Cooldown – 40 seconds

■ Affects self.

Change the weapon in use:

Damage: 11% of final ATK

Last for: 7 sec

■ Activates when the target is with a Fire code.

Deals 11% of final ATK as additional damage.

Summer Neon Burst is hands down among the worst Bursts in the game. If you use it, you’re basically lowering her damage output by half or even more. It’s that terrible.

This means that the only way to play Summer Neon is in the third Burst III position, so she only auto-attacks and never even tries to use her Burst.

Summary

Summer Neon is honestly underwhelming. Like really underwhelming. To play her optimally, you basically have to ignore two of her skills – Skill 1 and Burst – and only use her as the third Burst III character. The issue is that she competes in that spot with a lot of great support characters that help the team in various ways, while Summer Neon is selfish and brings nothing to the table but DPS – and the DPS is also really bad unless you fight against a Fire Boss.

Pros

  • Works great against Fire enemies as sub-DPS,
  • MG weapon which means she scales nicely with ATK%, OL gear, and works great in later parts of the game as a DPS…

Cons

  • … but who would invest in her that much because her kit is straight-up terrible,
  • using her Burst skill means you’re cutting her damage output in half – which also means her Skill 1 doesn’t exist as it only activates when she Bursts,
  • her damage output is terrible against non-Fire enemies.

Ratings

  • Story – C
  • Bossing – A (against Fire bosses), C (against non-Fire bosses)
  • PVP – D

Should you pull?

If you’re a F2P player? No. She’s a hard skip.

If you’re a low-spender? Getting one of her copy might be worth it, but not more.

I wonder if the patch to her kit made her more attractive now. Hey kit numbers were boosted more than any previous patch I’ve seen.
